“But Enough About You” 5

What is William’s purpose in paragraph 6? Why does he make this “Confession,” and how does he deal with its implications?

In paragraph 6, Williams uses pathos to connect with the readers by showing his personal experience. He proves that he is in no way trying to offend anyone by "confessing" that he too, writes blogs "celebrating" his individual self. Williams shows that he is also a part of the "User-Generated Generation" contributing by anchoring a broadcast but to a smaller audience than the television-news' forebears.

By confessing his secret Williams tells his readers that he too is caught up in materialistic things; in his case the blogs he writes about his favorite television show. Williams sees only what he use to way back in his time, he ignores the mass media that is popular today. He is connected to his show and does not want to see any other and would probably not write a blog on anything else. He realizes that he is implying himself to be one of the Americans that he points out in his article. Everyone is caught up in it even when they realize it, they can not stop.
