“Letter from Birmingham Jail” 2

Why does he arrange paragraphs 2-4 in the order that he does? How would reversing the order have changed the impact?

The three paragraphs flow with the following format: qualification, cause, effect, and justification.
By imposing authority, or ethos, on himself, King presents himself as a qualified black person to speak against the clergymen. He states his avocation as the President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference has the duty of rectifying the wrong into the good. Then, he explains what is wrong in Birmingham. Birmingham, he says, has protests, riots, and King because "injustice is here". He proves he not only needs to bring justice, but also help the fellow brothers that are "tied in a single garment of destiny".
If the paragraphs were re-arranged, the readers might lose some reliability to King's persuasion. It seems weaker when The cause is argued before the introduction of the qualifications of the speaker.

Clearly King wants us to understand who he is before we either criticize him or think he is not an important person. But as he introduces himself the reader comprehends his goals, intentions, and ideas, especially since he is a humble president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, thus making himself sound worthy of the clergy's time. His ties and bonds with people create an aura which let's us know of his dedication to the health of the population. Later, King writes about injustice. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." (Paragraph 4) King writes a generalized idea of how injustice affects us all even if it is an indirect contact.
If the paragraphs were set up differentley, we wouldn't think that King was a suitable person to listen. Therefore, his paragraph wouldn't be as effective and convincing.
