Through the first paragraph, what does Thoreau declare as his high purpose?

"I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so "sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion" (paragraph 1 sentence 3). This quote gives an example of what Thoreau wants to achieve by living as simple as he can in the forest. Basically, what Thoreau seeks is to get to know what is the meaning of life is. To him he wants to know it solely by getting to experience it in different terms compared to others. By going off by himself he can capture the essence of it and know the purpose of why he is there.

Thoreau in the first paragraph shows how he wants to live a simple life. He wants to know the details of life that usually people do not take the time to observe. Thoreau wants to enjoy life to the best. He tries to show people that there should be more appriciation for life and that it only comes ones.

Thoreau’s purpose is simply, to live. Thoreau does not want to be caught up in the rushed, fast life. Instead he wants to absorb everything that life has to offer. He wants to die knowing that he lived what life was meant to be. He wants to live life as it was suppose to be not as how people have made it.
